Company History: When Mrs. Alice U. Aniag, decided to resign from her profession in the banking industry to become a regular housewife she found herself idle most of the time. These moments lead to her discovering a talent she had in her all these years but never really knew she had it all along- she was creative. In a small office in their house in Atlag, Malolos, Bulacan started her small industry. She would buy items from the wholesalers’ capital in Manila- Divisoria and turn them into a fancy but stylish décor. Then her creativity lead her to focus more on creating Christmas decors- Christmas wreath, Christmas candle, Christmas ornaments and more. A friend noticed the potential in her work so then she introduced her to National Bookstore, the leading bookstore in the country. This was her first client. From then on, her small office turned into a factory of Christmas Décor. The business opened job opportunities to some out of school youth, housewives and bystanders in the barangay. With a handful workers, this lead to the foundation of C & K Handicraft in 1992. It was realized that such an industry is seasonal. Since the business has given an opportunity to a significant number of people in the barangay, Mrs. Aniag felt the need to reinvent in order to continuously provide a source of living for these people. Then came the opportunity of papíer maché. It was in 1995 when Mrs. Aniag ventured on papíer maché but still continued to manufacture Christmas décor during the Christmas season. She started as a subcontractor for exporters such as Manex, Suntrade Trading, A & R Crafts, and more. She has also joined local trade fairs and expositions and regularly exhibits her products during the Likha ng Central Luzon Trade Fair in Megamall during the month of October and has also joined the National Trade Fair. Today, her stylish, colorful and affordable boxes can be seen at leading bookstores nationwide. Local businesses and entrepreneurs also purchase boxes from C & K Handicraft to package their items for better presentation. C & K Handicraft continues to support the livelihood of out-of-school youths, housewives and bystanders in the neighborhood with this industry. Now, the workforce has grown to 60 and hopefully grow to be engaged in exporting.
